The APC SM-501-N is an ionization-type duct smoke detector designed to provide early detection of smoke and combustion products in HVAC duct systems. It is intended to prevent the recirculation and spread of smoke by initiating system shutdown of air handling units, fans, and blowers upon detection.
The SM-501-N operates on four selectable input voltages (230 VAC, 115 VAC, 24 VAC, or 24 VDC), making it suitable for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and residential HVAC applications. The unit supports interconnection of up to 30 detectors for common alarm, test/reset, and supervisory functions.
Housed in a rugged 18-gauge steel backbox with a clear Makrolon 94V-0 cover, the detector provides two sets of Form “C” alarm contacts and one set of Form “C” trouble contacts for monitoring detector head removal and power loss. Visual status indication includes a green pilot LED (power) and red alarm LED, with a manual test/reset switch accessible from the front.
Air sampling is achieved via rear-loading sampling tubes and a 7-inch exhaust tube (included). The ionization detector head is interchangeable with compatible photoelectric heads.
