How Does a Module Work?

Modules can be used to expand the capabilities of your fire alarm control panel (FACP). They receive input signals from the FACP to control output devices, emergency controls, activate external high-voltage devices, or interface with other systems.

What Are the Different Types of Modules?
The common types of modules include monitor modules, control modules, input/output modules, isolation modules, interface modules, power supply modules, annunciator modules, and loop expander modules.

Monitor / Input Modules
Monitor modules supervise and report the status changes (alarm, trouble, supervisory) of normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) dry contact devices to the FACP.

Control Modules
Control modules are used by the FACP to control and activate external devices based on commands received during an alarm or other event.

Input / Output Modules
I/O modules combine the functions of both monitor and control modules, allowing the. FACP to both monitor a device’s status and control another device based on that status.

Isolation Modules
In addressable systems, isolation modules automatically isolate short circuits or other faults on the signaling line circuit (SLC) loop, ensuring the rest of the loop remains operational.

Interface Modules
Interface modules communicate with other systems in response to signals from the fire alarm control panel.
