Video Smoke Detection With Fike SigniFire Cameras

Table of Contents

Introduction

The Fike SigniFire family of products provide a complete, turnkey solution for fire and smoke detection using IP-Cameras. This detection technology can operate over wide areas and detect smoke or flames using algorithms and video analytics. Consequently, it makes the perfect solution for areas with large open spaces, warehouses, and other large industrial sites. Fike SigniFire is UL listed and FM approved, making it a secure way to detect fires in conditions that render traditional point and line detection ineffective. To add, all video streams, fire activities, and events are recorded to an internal hard disk in real-time to seamlessly streamline your documentation and record-keeping requirements.

Fike Signifire seamlessly integrates into a current IP network or CCTV system, can be used for remote monitoring using Fike’s proprietary software, and is compatible with fire alarm annunciation with relay contacts on the back of the IP-camera. As a bonus, it also doubles as an intrusion detection system. All in all, the SigniFire offers many benefits for early warning detection systems, especially for open area venues.

SigniFire IP Smoke Detection Camera

The SigniFire IP-Camera is a part of the SigniFire line of products. The camera is capable of detecting motion, unauthorized intrusion, flaming fires, smoke at an incipient stage, and even obstructed flames using the reflected light from the fire. The camera has a range of up to 100 ft away. Also, it can detect smoke independent of airflow in the area, providing a means of early detection even in areas where smoke may dissipate or drift away from the site of origin. For more hazardous occupancies, the camera and base come with explosion-proof options so you can utilize Fike’s video analytics no matter the application.

The cameras are compatible with power over ethernet (POE), so they don’t require a dedicated power source. Ideally, your cameras will be connected via twisted pair cables to a POE-enabled switch that connects your cameras to the event log server (FSM-IP). Additionally, you may use addressable modules to integrate your IP-Camera with your Fire Alarm Control Panel using the camera’s dry contact points. As a result, the camera can trigger alarm states and work with Fire Alarm annunciation. Paired with FSM-IP, you can have a complete fire detection and management solution for easy configuration of your system.

An example Signifire IP-Camera system network architecture

SigniFire FSM-IP Network Video Recorder

The FSM-IP video recorder is a scalable, network video recorder (NVR) with video management software. The FSM-IP acts as an event management server, and supports up to 32 SigniFire network cameras. It has customizable storage space, which it uses to store event logs. Also, the SigniFire IP system allows you to capture the origin of the fire and its movements during the fire event in real-time. At the same time, it captures an event log that includes the location of the fire, when it starts, and when it is no longer present in the zone. You can access archived events onsite, or from a remote location over the internet.

SigniFire FSM-8 DVR

The FSM-8 can be used to extend your video analytics capabilities to a preinstalled CCTV camera system. It is capable of using the video footage to run the same algorithms used by the IP-Camera to detect motion, smoke, fire, reflected fire light, and intrusion. It supports 8 video channels, and is scalable, so you can add new units to the IP network.

A snapshot of the Video Management Software User Interface

SigniFire SpyderGuard Software

Easily view fire event logs and quickly respond to emergency situations over the simple user interface that SpyderGuard provides. SpyderGuard enables you to access multiple FSM-IP and FSM-8 units at the same time. In its browser menus, you can easily reset your cameras and navigate between different physical installations or locations.

Signifire SpyderGuard has powerful automation and customization capabilities as well. You can program conditions based on certain events, like waiting for smoke first or motion detection before triggering another event. It can send notification emails for alarms and video snapshots, and it can generate reports about system activities.

During a real fire event, SpyderGuard notifies your personnel of the location of the fire in a similar fashion to fire alarm annunciators. It also provides a visual indicator of the activity, showing a red outline around flames and a blue outline around smoke clouds. The simple user interface allows your security personnel to quickly respond to the emergency situation. Moreover, its intuitive interface does not require any specialized training to review alarms, video feeds, building plans or vital site information.

Conclusion

Fike SigniFire offers a great solution for open spaces and large warehouse buildings. With the advanced capabilities of SigniFire IP cameras, video analytics, and real-time event recording, the system can use video images to effectively detect fires.
