Description
The Simplex 4098-9687 Stand-Alone Duct Smoke Detector Housing is designed to monitor air moving through HVAC ducts for the presence of smoke. The unit operates independently of a fire alarm control panel and includes a factory-installed TrueAlarm photoelectric smoke detector mounted inside the housing.
Air sampling tubes installed through the duct draw air into the detector housing where the integrated sensor analyzes the airflow for smoke particles. If smoke is detected, the unit activates its internal Form-C relay output, triggers an alarm indication, and activates the associated remote control station.
The housing includes a clear polycarbonate cover that allows visual inspection of the detector and status LED without opening the enclosure. Test ports enable functional smoke testing while the cover remains in place. A built-in magnetic test feature allows technicians to initiate an alarm and check detector status using an external magnet.
For system operation, the detector requires the Simplex 4098-9842 remote control station, which provides power indication, alarm indication, a local tone-alert sounder, silence control, and a keyed test/reset switch. Sampling tubes are selected separately based on duct width to ensure proper airflow monitoring across the duct cross-section.
