Introduction

At FireAlarm.com, we are proud to announce a major addition to our product lineup: the Fike Small Space Suppression System (SSSS). In partnership with Fike, a leader in fire protection technology, we are now offering a state-of-the-art solution specifically designed to safeguard small, high-risk areas from fire. Their pre-engineered system uses flexible pneumatic tubes, which autonomously detect and suppress fires though low pressure systems without the need for human intervention. This advanced system is the first of its kind to receive a UL listing for small space suppression applications, setting a new standard in fire safety.

Why Fike Small Space Suppression Systems?

It is imperative that fires are detected and suppressed as early as possible to prevent them from growing out of control. At the same time, fires can be started in areas that are obscured and may not be reliably covered by smoke or flame detection devices. Even more, these obscured spaces are often the most high-risk areas in the facility. This is especially the case in appliances such as CNC machines, wind turbines, electrical cabinets, server racks, laboratory equipment, industrial machines, and more.

Fike’s Small Space Suppression System is engineered to protect these critical environments. Its design and functionality offer unparalleled advantages over competing products. Here’s why it stands out:

Industry-Leading UL Listing

The Fike Small Space Suppression System is the first UL listed solution for this application, providing you with the assurance that it meets the highest industry standards for safety and performance. This certification underscores its reliability and effectiveness in real-world scenarios.

Pre-engineered for Optimal Performance

This system comes pre-engineered and is meticulously designed to offer rapid and reliable fire suppression. It eliminates the need for extensive on-site engineering, ensuring that your fire protection system is both effective and easy to implement. Fike even offers online, on-demand training for their small space suppression systems and more.

Enhanced Features

Fike’s Small Space Suppression Systems have several features that sets it apart:

  • Pressure Gauge Integration: Built into the cylinder valve to minimize damage and avoid nuisance leaks.
  • Improved Hook Mechanism: Proprietary design ensures better performance and reliablity.
  • Cost-effective: Cylinders are available in 1-6kg, 9kg, 14kg, and 18kg cylinders to provide the most cost-effective size for the application.

How the Fike Small Space Suppression System Works

Early response is critical in fire situations. Thus, the Fike Small Space Suppression System is engineered to be the fastest-acting response system to a fire emergency. Fike SSSS activates suppression measures within seconds of the fire’s outbreak, significantly reducing the potential damage. To add, rigorous testing ensures that the system performs effectively in real-world conditions. The Fike Small Space Suppression System uses an intuitive approach to detect and extinguish fires. Here’s a closer look at its operation:

  1. Immediate Detection and Activation: The system employs a flexible heat-reactive tube that is strategically routed through the protected area. This tube is pressurized with nitrogen, which is crucial for activating the suppression agent.
  2. Suppression Mechanism: When a fire occurs, the heat from the flames melts a section of the heat-reactive tubing. This breach releases the nitrogen pressure, which in turn opens the valve on the suppression agent container.
  3. Automatic operation: The system is designed to operate automatically, requiring no human intervention. This feature ensures that in the event of a fire, the system will respond instantly, allowing personnel to focus on evacuating the building safely.

Direct and Indirect Fire Suppression Configurations

Fike SSSS comes in both direct and indirect configurations. Often, direct low pressure systems are preferred for electrical cabinets and wind turbines. Also, in direct applications, the clean agent is dispensed directly from the specially formulated plastic polymer tubing. This tubing provides effective linear heat detection and is not effected by debris, contamination, or harsh environments. As a result, when a fire occurs, the tubing is designed to rupture in the area closest to the flames. Consequently, the pressure loss caused by the melted tube opens the clean agent cylinder, releasing Novec 1230 from the hole in the tube and directly onto the fire.

An indirect configuration will release the clean agent through a separate discharge hose. The indirect system is ideal for CNC machines, since the chamber may be flooded with the clean agent through UL-listed nozzles into the system. Similar to direct systems, indirect systems also use polymer tubing that is pressurized with nitrogen. When a fire occurs, the pressure release causes the cylinder valve to open, which releases the clean agent into the discharge hose.
