Enclosures are important parts of your fire alarm system that protects your devices from physical damage, unauthorized access, and environmental factors. Choosing the right one for your system can save you a lot of headaches in the future.

IP/NEMA Rating
IP and NEMA ratings indicate the device’s resistance to dust and water. Higher IP ratings mean the device is more resistant to external conditions.

Size and Capacity
For FACP and battery enclosures, ensure sufficient space for the required number and size of backup batteries. Also, consider how many devices and components will be housed within the enclosure, and allow sufficient space for wiring, ventilation, or expansion.

Mounting Options
Surface Mount: Designed to be mounted directly onto a wall or other flat surface.
Flush Mount: These devices are recessed into a wall, providing a cleaner look that lies flush to the surrounding wall. This mounting requires cutting an opening in the wall.
Rack Mount: Designed to be installed on a standard 19-inch equipment rack and often used for larger systems or centralized equipment rooms.

Security
Locking mechanisms, tamper switches, and latches are common ways to prevent unauthorized access to a device. Consider the type of lock (key, combination, etc.) and the level of security required. In some cases, you can include a tamper switch, which can send an alarm signal if the enclosure door is opened without authorization.
