Introduction
The FSP-851 series has been a staple in addressable detection systems for over a decade. They are designed for use with the ONYX series addressable control panels and featured a low standby current. However, they are now replaced by the 951 series detectors. Some major changes to the series includes a sleek, low profile design, expanded color options, and the exclusion of an ionization type model. As ionization detectors decline in use, Notifier has decided that there is no longer a need for an ionization version of their popular smoke detectors, hence there is no FSI model in the 951 series. In this week’s post, I will delineate what you need to know about the latest series.
951 Series Detectors
The newest iteration of this prevalent series offers several improvements over the old one. To start, the 951 series improves on energy efficiency, with even lower standby and max current thresholds. They have also kept the low profile design, rotary switches, and dual LEDs for 360 ° visibility.
The newer 951 series also offers IV versions of each product in the line. The IV stands for ivory, which is the color for the legacy detectors. Additionally, the IV models are compatible with both CLIP and FlashScan protocols, while the non IV models only work with the FlashScan protocol. The more recent FlashScan protocol drastically amplifies communication speed among analog intelligent devices. With FlashScan, communication is batched, handling 10 devices concurrently. As a fallback, the IV models give users with older, CLIP systems the opportunity to upgrade to newer detectors without having to upgrade their fire panel.
