Introduction

Honoring Jamaican statesman Norman Manley, the Normal Manley International airport stands as a testament to Jamaican culture. The airport is located in the city of Kingston, Jamaica. Hosting more than 130 international flights weekly and catering to millions of passengers, Normal Manley serves as an important point for business and travel throughout Jamaica. Situated in the capital city, it has major significance to the country’s economic stability, facilitating both passenger and cargo transportation.

The Norman Manley International Airport

Dedicated to fostering sustainability and environmental consciousness, the airport takes proactive measures to ensure the protection of both its passengers and the diverse ecosystems thriving within the harbor, encompassing vital habitats such as seagrass beds, coral reefs, and mangrove wetlands. Committed to upholding the highest safety standards, they also follow the directives outlined in OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations (1910.119), NFPA, and the American Petroleum Institute, meticulously managing the handling and utilization of hazardous substances, including aviation fuel.

Fire Alarm System Installation

In our most recent project, we completed an upgrade and repair of the suppression system for Normal Manley International’s Fuel Farm. We granted the fire alarm system installation to SW Safety & Consultancy Services, who chose Fike’s suppression system since it was recommended by their engineers, “as one of the better suppression systems [they] have been using over the years.” In this project, we made the switch from a simplex panel to Fike’s Cheetah Xi, along with Fike’s modules, including the 55-041 and the 55-043.

We were able to procure all the necessary parts for this project within three weeks. Due to our network of connections with both manufacturers and distributors, we were able to expedite the parts for this project with the help of our partners. Thanks to our proactive team members and associates, we completed the project before our projected deadlines.

Why Make The Upgrade?

Fike has been a household name in the fire suppression industry since 1945, and they specialize in protecting mission-critical assets from fire and explosion hazards. Upgrading to the Cheetah Xi offers many benefits; these benefits include addressable configurations, lockout mechanisms, modularity, suppression system activation, emergency power shutdown, integration with foam suppression systems and more. Furthermore, the Cheetah Xi offers true peer-to-peer digital protocol for extremely fast and reliable communications.

The fuel farm poses extreme dangers, since fuel and other flammable materials are stored in large quantities in fixed bulk tanks. To mitigate losses, our strategy incorporates a foam suppression system, which effectively isolates fuel and fuel vapors from heat and oxygen. Fike’s heat and fire detection ensure that sprinkler pre-action or deluge systems release only when there is a real fire emergency. Moreover, our panel allows precise event management and fire alarm graphics to monitor the system more effectively.
