Manufacturer History: Xtralis – Our Friends From Ireland!

From Xtralis’ website:

“Xtralis has been a pioneer in life safety for over 30 years. We are the world’s largest manufacturer of very-early warning aspirating smoke detection (ASD) systems, including VESDA, the world’s No. 1 ASD brand, and developed the industry’s first video motion detection technologies. Xtralis leads the market in very early warning fire detection.”

Founded in 1982/83 in Dublin, Ireland, Xtralis was originally incorporated in 1983 under the name “Vision Fire & Security Pty Ltd.”. As their site reads, Xtralis began making a name for themselves in the fire alarm industry with their very-early warning smoke detection systems. This, along with voice alarm, and interactive video security solutions, provided protection for many business-critical assets such as historic buildings such as cathedrals, or even tobacco/cigarette factories. By 2007, Xtralis had acquired two competitors, ASIM Technologies Ltd. and VSK Group. After continually selling more and more, and after the introduction of their popular VESDA series, Xtralis would then acquire another company: HeiTel Digital Video GmbH.

Xtralis would soon after introduce their ADPRO video & audio recording security series. ADPRO technology uses algorithms that screen out non-threatening factors in order to reduce the frequency of false alarms. Between 2000 and 2015, Xtralis was able to land their name within fire alarm distributors across 100+ countries. In 2016, Honeywell made one of their biggest acquisitions by entered into a definitive agreement and acquiring Xtralis, almost doubling their worth and dominance.

At this point in time, Xtralis smoke detection systems are used by one-third of all Fortune 500 companies. Xtralis smoke detectors and security systems have been installed in the European Parliament in Brussels, and corporate locations for Volkswagen and Renault. Other major institutions that utilize Xtralis systems are: NASA, the Dome of the Rock, the Clinton Presidential Center, Hearst Castle, Her Majesty’s Prison Service, Heathrow airport, and the Eurostar railway system. It’s easy to see why Xtralis is popular, and has solidified itself as a global brand.
